Introduction
This course builds upon the concepts and strategies learned in Face-to-Face Coaching for Understanding 1.
In f2f Coaching for Understanding 2 you will explore the practical challenges and rewards of f2f coaching by applying course ideas in your context. You will be asked to capture some of these experiences on video, and then share them in the discussion area with your Study Group for feedback and critique. While video will be helpful for those of you without access to such technology we will use data gathering protocols to provide the information for reflection and critique.
Using the coaching plan that you previously designed in course 1, we will look at ways to refine it, as you explore new practice and implement new strategies to support colleagues in the f2f coaching process.
Through interaction with an experienced coach and your course colleagues, you will learn how to use protocols to learn from student and teacher work, and you will explore and create practical tools that you can use in your f2f coaching to inspire and assist teachers in the pursuit of improving classroom practice.
Some of the questions we will explore during the course are:
- How can face-to-face coaches further develop their own skills in Coaching for Understanding?
- How can face-to-face coaches use a plan, strategies and tools to support cycles of continual improvement in teacher practice and student learning?
What will participants take away?
- How to use the Teaching for Understanding or the Dreams Frameworks to coach other educators for understanding.
- How to set a positive learning stage while providing honest, critical and meaningful feedback to colleagues.
- How to inspire and support teachers in understanding pedagogical ideas so that it ultimately impacts classroom practices and student understanding.
- How to use protocols and other tools to assess the coaching process.
